30 Carat Yellow Diamond Sold For $500,000
This rectangular, radiant cut 30 carat diamond that was obtained by Ritchies auction house was among the one of hundreds of items on the block Sunday at the Four Seasons hotel. A New York investor has held the diamond in a safe for years and it will finally have a chance to breathe fresh air. Although it was a potential record breaking diamond that was estimated to sell at $2 million presale, it sold at at a bargain price of $500,000.
This gemstone was the largest colored diamond ever to be put on the auction block in Canada, and generated a lot of buzz prior to the Sunday sale at the Four Seasons Hotel.
Sunday’s auction also saw a number of other prized items that were available for purchase, including jewellery previously owned by celebrity Jennifer Lopez, and a 158-carat emerald and diamond jewellery set valued at $750,000.
Other items also include a four piece sapphire and diamond set belonging to an Alberta family, and luxurious timepieces from Patek Philippe, A. Lange & Sohne, and Audemars Piguet.
Ritchies and Khan hold the record for the largest diamond ever sold at auction in Canada, which is a 50 carat white diamond that sold for more than $3 million in 2011. This also includes a 10 carat pink diamond for $2.3 million in 2010.
