To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the FIA World Championship, Swiss horology house, Baume & Mercier partnered with Carroll Shelby International Inc. with a collection of fine timepieces. These exclusive, and limited edition timepieces were inspired by the Cobra’s famous racing provenance and to celebrate Carroll Shelby’s achievements.
“Carroll Shelby Company and Baume & Mercier share many of the same core values,” said Neil Cummings, CEO of Carroll Shelby Licensing and co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International. “Both companies entered the crucible of competition early in their histories, winning prestigious victories. Those achievements were due to a commitment to building innovative products with timeless design and then honing them through relentless testing. Our common pursuit of perfection is reflected in the quality and craftsmanship of everything we create. The combination of these two icons should result in an amazing unveil.”
The Baume & Mercier Capeland Shelby Cobra 2015 limited edition is available in two pieces, a chronograph in stainless steel and a flyback chronograph in a 18k rose gold. These elegantly caputre the spirit and power of the Shelby Cobra, as well as Shelby American’s rich history. This year marks several golden anniversaries for Shelby American, which includes the unveiling of the 427 Shelby Cobra, a two seat roadster that some have called the first “hyper car” on January 25, 1965. Also during that year, Shelby American captured the FIA Sports Car World Championship in Rheims, France, which was a first for an American manufacturer.
Much like Shelby American, Baume & Mercier has been widely associated and recognizaed with top awards and gold medals in international competitions, which creates an ideal blend of knowledge, craftsmanship, passion and design.
The stainless steel chronograph timepeice has a polished and satin finished 44mm case with a chronograph, tachymeter functions and cobra crafted hands that were inspired by the Cobra steering wheel, and a Cobra logo at the end of the second hands. The chronograph subdials were designed and laid out in such a manner to pay homage to the 427 Cobra’s dashboard. The dial matches the color of the Shelby Guardsman Blue racing color along with a SuperLuminova blue emission. The timepiece is limited to 1965 pieces.
The 18k rose gold flyback chronograph has a caseback that is engraved with a personal signature of Caroll Shelby. Only 98 pieces will be created.
These limited edition Shelby Cobra Capeland timepieces will be unveiled in June 2015 and available at Diamond Dream Fine Jewelers in Bernardsville, New Jersey.
