Omega Solar Impulse
During a press conference in Payerne, Switzerland, Solar Impulse unveiled its second solar powered airplane titled Solar Impulse 2. This projected that is launched by Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borscheberg, has set itself the goal of circumnavigating the globe in an airplane powered day and night using nothing but solar energy by 2015.
Omega and Solar Impulse have partnered together to make the project a success. Omega became an active partner by providing capital support and quintessential technology to this trend setting venture that will contribute to the scientific development of alternative and sustainable energy.
The first test flights to circle the globe using the sun are schedule to begin in May in Switzerland. Omega developed several new and improved technologies that were added to the plane that to make it more efficient.
These enhancements includes:
1. A more efficient landing system
2. An upgraded OMEGA Instrument and an energy dispatcher. This allows a transference of energy from one engine to another in case if one loses energy.
3. The OMEGA Instrument that will show the degree of inclination of the airplane. It also ensures that the pilot will react in a timely fashion to the information.
